Nottingham University, UK
An agriculture graduate from Leeds and Newcastle universities in the United Kingdom, Mike Wilkinson spent over 10 years at the Grassland Research Institute, Hurley, before moving to research management in the Chief Scientist’s Group of the UK Ministry of Agriculture, London. His career then included research and teaching at Reading, London, De Montfort, Leeds and Cambridge universities together with scientific and technical writing and publishing. He is now an Honorary Professor at Nottingham University and a consultant to the livestock industry. He is author of almost 400 publications including 15 books on silage. Professor Wilkinson’s current research themes include improving the nutritional value of silage, reducing nutrient losses during the storage of silage, diet formulation and efficiency of feed use in livestock production systems and the environmental impact of milk and meat production. Together with Dr. Richard Muck, Prof. Wilkinson will give a presentation on the future of ensiling: Challenges and opportunities.
