Silage Solutions Ltd., UK
Dave Davies was born on an upland dairy farm in the Welsh Marches, ruminant agriculture is in his heart. He graduated in 1988 with a BSc in Microbiology. He then went onto study for a PhD in aspects of Rumen Microbiology at the Former Grassland Research Institute at Hurley and gained his PhD in 1991. After this he worked at the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research near Aberystwyth as a Silage Research Scientist. During his time at IGER he had a broad range of research interests from developing silage additives, ensiling alternative crops, how silage fermentation affects the efficiency of rumen fermentation, and feeding. In 2010 Dave left the institute and established Silage Solutions Ltd., a company that is involved in research and consultancy. Dave continues to be actively involved in research and collaborates with a number of research organisations in the UK and Europe. He also travels widely across Europe visiting and speaking to farmers and offering consultancy services. Together with Prof. Borreani, Dr. Davies will give a presentation on new technologies to monitor and improve silage quality from field to feed-out.
